Chinese steel market sentiment strengthened in October on expectations of robust domestic demand, according to the latest S&P Global Platts China Steel Sentiment Index (CSSI), which showed a headline reading of 46.03 out of a possible 100 points. The headline CSSI, which measures the combined outlook for new domestic and export steel orders over the next month, rose by 3.44 points from September. It was the third-consecutive monthly increase and the strongest reading since last April. Over January-October, the headline index averaged 42.54 points, identical to the average in the same period last year. A reading above 50 indicates expectations of an increase/expansion and a reading below 50 indicates a decrease/contraction.
