摘要

The Mexican president has sent an initiative to Congress that would undo a piece of the legal framework designed by the previous administration that allows participation of independent producers of electricity, in a move that observers believe will seriously hurt investment in the country. The initiative, sent as a priority by President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador Jan. 29, would command the sector regulator CRE to cancel permits for generation of electricity for self-consumption on suspicion of corruption and also allow the regulator to review and cancel contracts signed by the state utility CFE with private producers if they are not profitable to the government.
