SUPPLY--Cliffs’ Insatiable AppetiteAME’s current crude steel supply forecast is for full year 2020 production of 1,854Mt, a 1.2% decrease over the year, though the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic continues to create significant uncertainty, to the upside and downsides.
The World Steel Association reported that crude steel production rose 0.6% on-year to 156.2Mt in August. In Asia, China produced 94.8Mt of crude steel in August (up 8.4% on-year), followed by India with 8.5 Mt (down 4.4% on-year), Japan with 6.4Mt (down 20.6% on-year) South Korea with 5.8Mt (down by 1.8% on-year. Looking at Europe, Germany produced 2.8Mt (down 13.4% on-year), followed by Italy with 0.9Mt (up 9.7% on-year), France with 0.7Mt (down 31.2% on-year) Spain with 0.7Mt (down 32.5% on-year). Meanwhile, the United States produced 5.6Mt of crude steel in August, a decrease of 24.4% compared to the same month in 2019.
