Welcome to the third, and final, article in our "Journey to Guidelines" series. ORNAC believes that perioperative nursing practice should be based on the best possible evidence available to guide Registered Nurses in the care of their patients. The new title of the 13th Edition, "The ORNAC Standards, Guidelines, and Position Statements for Registered Nurses," reflects and supports this belief. The transition of practice statements to guidelines shows a commitment to basing practice on research and current evidence and, thereby, "Promoting Excellence".
