Looking forward 20 years seems a very long time, but Looking back it seems no time at all.It doesn't feel like it's 20 years since the UK suffered its last major foot-and-mouth outbreak, in 2001. It's no celebration, rather a remembrance of one of the darkest storms the livestock industry has weathered in recent times.Much has been written during the past few months about the impact of the outbreak, and it's only right to think back and remember what a devastating period it was - if it serves to make sure the sector keeps its eye on the ball and does whatever it can to avoid another outbreak. And, if such an outbreak should occur, the industry is far better prepared to minimise its impact.
