摘要

Surgical-site infection is a significant cause of morbidity, lengthening hospital stays and contributing to health care costs. Cesarean delivery increases the risk of surgical site infection, and obesity contributes to this risk because obese pregnant women are more likely to have cesarean deliveries. Negative pressure wound therapy is becoming more common for wound closure after cesarean delivery. Yet, studies on its effectiveness have been limited to retrospective, cohort studies and randomized trials with small sample sizes. The need for larger, well-designed trials was cited in a 2019 Cochrane review. The aim of this study was to examine the effectiveness of negative pressure wound therapy on the risk of surgical site and other wound infections in obese women who had cesarean deliveries.
