摘要

1.INTRODUCTION: A year ago, we read with disappointment and dismay Damien Contandriopoulos's article entitled, 'About academic bullshit in nursing', published in Nursing Inquiry (Contandriopoulos, 2019). At the time, we wondered whether the article was a spoof or, at least, a baleful provocation. Since then, we have deliberated as to how or whether to respond. Our dilemma was this: by responding, perversely we succumb to the self-referential arguments and afford the author a citation, albeit for a rather disagreeable piece of writing. Alternatively, it seemed unsatisfactory for commentary of that ilk to go unchallenged, spoof or not. We decided to treat the article as a genuine commentary and provide this rejoinder which we have couched in the author's own terms, 'bullshit', and which we hope will cast nursing scholarship in a more positive light so that nurse academics might continue to imagine how things might move beyond the given.
