China, India, Bangladesh, Indonesia and Vietnam are the world's largest rice producers. Traditionally the rice is harvested by hand with a scythe or sickle, but by and large most harvesting is now done using modern harvesting machines in the field.After being cut and laid out for sundrying for a few days the paddy must be threshed to separate the grain from the stalk. Packed in bags, the harvested paddy is then loaded on trucks and transported to a rice mill for further processing.
