Quality of life among older adults with Alzheimer's disease in residential care: who knows best?

As the prevalence of AD grows across the globe, individuals, care-givers and health organisations struggle to cope with the overwhelming personal, economic, and healthcare system challenges that often accompany the condition. With a growing need for residential care facilities to assume care, QOL has become an important measure to families and staff. The study by Dewitte et al examines the association between QOL in AD (self-reported and staff-reported) and cognition. Persons with AD require collaborative, multiprofessional, patient-centred care, yet many formal caregivers underestimate QOL-AD compared with individuals living with the disease.
