Incidence and prevalence of medical device-related pressure ulcers in children and adults

Medical device-related pressure ulcers are areas of localised injury to the skin or underlying tissue as a result of sustained pressure from a device. Medical device-related pressure ulcers occur across hospital departments. Patients who use medical devices are twice more likely to develop pressure injuries than patients who do not use medical devices. Medical device-related pressure ulcers decrease patients' quality of life and increase the cost of care for both patients and the healthcare system. This study aims to synthesise the incidence and prevalence of medical device-related pressure ulcers in children and adults and to identify the medical devices commonly associated with pressure ulcers.
