The big conservation lie

John Mbaria and Mordecai Ogada are angry. To judge from what they document in The Big Conservation Lie,they have every reason to be. We in the Western,developed world have every reason to be embarrassed,ashamed,and repentant,and those in the developing world east of the Nile have reason to ponder the implications of,as Mbaria and Ogada put it，"sniffing around"Africa. Both authors are Kenyan. Mbaria is a planner and journalist while Ogada is a Ph.D. ecologist. They argue,with considerable documentary evidence,that the international organizations promoting wildlife conservation in Kenya and throughout Africa are based on and committed to white colonialist models and are deeply and fundamentally racist. These organizations,they say,have in effect perpetuated colonial rule,with the connivance of Western governments and organs of the United Nations,under the guise of saving wildlife.
