COVID-19: nurse-led bereavement support in a large NHS health board

The coronavirus crisis is a global pandemic, with countries across the world reporting cases. The pandemic has had an unprecedented impact in the UK on health and social care services. To date in the UK, there have been 86 015 deaths within 28 days of a positive COVID-19 test, and 89 243 deaths with COVID-19 on the death certificate. In Scotland, 5166 people have died who have tested positive for COVID-19, and 7704 deaths have been registered in Scotland where COVID-19 was mentioned on the death certificate (GOV.UK, 2021). In addition, 39% of COVID-19 registered deaths relate to deaths in care homes in Scotland, 55% were in hospitals and 6% were at home or non-institutional settings (Scottish Government, 2021).
