Emirates Global Aluminium has signed an agreement with Neo Aluminio Colombia concerning the export of EGA’s smelting technology for the development of the first aluminium production plant in the South American country. The Colombian company is currently assessing the feasibility of building a low carbon smelter, the so-called Green Aluminium Transformation Complex for Colombia (Galtco), in the northwest of the country. The project, powered with hydroelectricity and intended to reach a production capacity of 540,000 tpy, would be the heart of a new industrial cluster creating jobs and economic opportunity. The agreement envisages EGA licensing its UAE-developed smelting technology to Neo Aluminio Colombia, and providing an array of technical services during the construction and ramp-up of the project.
