China Hongqiao Group Ltd is reported to planspending USD1.6bn to purchase two aluminiumprocessing firms in order to bolster its expansionbeyond primary aluminium production.In a statement to the Hong Kong StockExchange, the world's biggest aluminiumsmelter said that it will take majority controlof aluminium foil producer Loften EnvironmentalTechnology Co. Ltd. In August 2016,China Hongqiao agreed to buy 28% of Loftenfor arout ￥900m (USD131m). In a secondstep it has now boosted that stake to 74% atan additional cost of ￥10bn.
