Reading a river for gold is one of the most important skills a prospector can have and understanding how erosion works in a river environment is an important part of that skill. This is because it's actually erosion that sets up why the rivers are what they are, including the formation of gravel bars, old bench deposits and other situations that lead to paystreaks and other gold deposits.
