Prospective LNG partners wait on Doha

Qatar is evaluating partnership bids from international and state-owned oil com- panies for a slice of its massive LNG expansion. The deadline for shortlisted frms to submit their bids passed in late May, and Qatari state-owned QP is expected to award stakes before the end of this year — that is, if Doha chooses any foreign partners at all. Energy minister Saad Sherida al-Kaabi kicked of a long-heralded LNG capacity expansion on 9 February, sanc- tioning a $28.75bn investment in four new production trains to boost capacity to 110mn t/yr by 2025 from 77mn t/yr. Further developments will add two more trains to hit capacity of 126mn t/yr by the end of 2027.
