Atlantic Basin Industrial: Cif ARA spot rises

The Argus cif ARA index for wood pellets delivered in to the Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Antwerp (ARA) area in the next 90 days gained $1.29/t to close at $164.12/t on Wednesday. Delays to biomass consumption projects helped curb the rise as heating demand in Scandinavia remained strong. Start-up delays and lower-than-anticipated pellet consumption at biomass power projects prompted some to look to sell volumes into the spot market in the week. A deal for around 50,000t for January delivery was close to conclusion, with discussions heard in the mid $160s/t. The vessel was understood to be a contracted delivery diverted into the spot market.
