Epidemiology Matters

The market for introductory epidemiology textbooks remains strong, with at least 11 books published in the past 10 years (1–11). The main challenge confronting authors of these introductory texts and teachers of introductory courses is to describe in delicate detail topics that may have entire advanced textbooks and courses devoted solely to them while keeping students engaged and priming them for the next level of study. In their new textbook, Epidemiology Matters, Keyes and Galea take on this challenge by offering students a step-by-step introduction to what they term “consequentialist epidemiology.”
