摘要

Hardly a day goes by without some headline being declared as "fake news." Fake news stones have compelling headlines that draw people in. It takes a bit of work to figure out what parts of the stories are true, or loosely based on truth, of just outright lies. Over the last year or so, as ILMA has been ratcheting up its involvement in the obsolete oil issue, I can't help but draw comparisons with fake news. Like fake news, a container of oil in a convenience or discount store may have a compelling package. The label might proclaim that the product is "premium" or "quality." Those claims draw in cash-strapped consumers looking to save a buck, and many don't have the time, knowledge or eyesight to scan the labels for product information — some of which is buried or altogether non-existent. And like fake news, the claims don't quite stand up to reality.
