Transport phenomena is one of the foundational courses in engineering science and is taught to almost all engineers; however, the traditional approach to the subject does not emphasise on some of the underlying scientific aspects - specifically, the non-equilibrium thermodynamic aspects - of the subject. Venerus and Oettinger's textbook is meant to bridge this gap between transport phenomena and thermodynamics in order to develop a deeper understanding of the relationship. It is written by a physicist and an engineer with an aimto be appealing to both scientists and engineers. I am glad to say that the book succeeds admirably in this goal.
