US EPA comes under fire over emergency disinfectant exemption

Scientists and NGOs have voiced alarm over a lack of scrutiny behind the US EPA’s recent emergency approval of a disinfectant that claims to kill the coronavirus Covid-19 on surfaces for up to a week. The exemption, issued on 24 August, will allow American Airlines to use the unregistered product SurfaceWise2 on 27 aircraft and its airport facilities in Texas. It will also permit its use at two Total Orthopedics Sports and Spine facilities in the state.
