EU disinfectant industry says demand has been met as legal exemptions expire: Disagreement over need for further derogations

Europe’s cleaning products industry has said Covid 19-related supply and demand issues for disinfectants are history, amid disagreement over the need to extend current legal exemptions for the products. The German Association of Hygiene and Surface Protection Industries (IHO) has found the production of disinfectant products has increased five-fold since the start of the pandemic. Its members produced 43,000 tonnes of hand disinfectant last October, compared with 8,700 tonnes per month on average in 2019, according to a recent IHO survey.
