UK HSE will not use independent experts ‘routinely’ under CLP: Comments provide detail on mandatory classification process as Risep recruitment begins
The UK Health and Safety Executive will not 'routinely' seek independent expert advice on proposals for mandatory classifications under UK CLP. However, it 'may' do so on substance evaluation and identification of substances of very high concern (SVHCs) under UK REACH 'from time to time', the agency has told Chemical Watch. The comments provide further evidence of the agency’s intention to move away from the EU’s approach (see box) to independent expert advice for regulatory decisions on hazardous chemicals.
