Ship traffic in Suez Canal resumes

Egypt’s traffic artery – Suez Canal – was successfully unblocked a week after the giant container ship ran aground. The traffic jams issue in the area still remains. The waterway, which was blocked for a week by Ever Given container ship (operated by Evergreen Marine Corporation, a major Taiwan-based shipping company) has finally become free. The ship was refloated on March 29 after a set of manoeuvres, allowing for the full restoration of the vessel’s direction. After the way clearance, the next issue that needs to be solved is a huge traffic jam, which has already bundled hundreds of ships around. Among the ways to solve the situation, the Suez Canal Authority plans to work to allow 150 ships a day to pass through, far more than the 90 vessels it can handle on a normal day, according to The Financial Times.
