摘要

We were lucky to have a great ceramics department at my secondary school in North London and a great teacher called Mrs O'Hara. She really encouraged me to develop my interest in clay. I wasn't very academic and the art classes allowed me to use my imagination. A good teacher can see the possibilities in their students and she could obviously see something in me that was worth nurturing. I studied on the Wood, Metal, Ceramics and Plastics degree course at Brighton University, graduating in 1992. Our ceramics tutor Sean Hetterley, taught me that clay can be a fine art material and that anything was possible. He drew and painted amazing caricatures of the staff and students and pretty much left us to explore, develop and make our own work in the ceramics department.
