FATAL LYME CARDITIS PRESENTING AS FLUCTUATING HIGH-GRADE ATRIOVENTRICULAR BLOCK

In early July, a previously healthy 37-year-old man presented to a primary care clinic with fever, sore throat, nasal congestion and migratory arthralgia. He also reported circular, ery-thematous lesions having developed on his back and chest in late June, but he thought he had sustained these lesions while picking raspberries. The lesions had faded within 1 week. He had a history of tick exposure earlier in June, in southern Manitoba, but did not note having removed an engorged tick. A viral infection was suspected by the primary care physician; the patient's symptoms resolved spontaneously and he felt well.
