AMPTECHNOLOGY CENTRE MARKS TENTH ANNIVERSARY

Leading figures making, developing and designing pioneering technologies - many years ahead of their time - in South Yorkshire's industrial heartland, were put centre-stage this month to mark the tenth anniversary of the AMP Technology Centre in Rotherham. The 45,000 sq ft farility, which was officially opened in November 2006 by three-time Formula 1 World Champion, Sir Jackie Stewart, was designed to offer incubation space for a range of advanced manufacturing SME companies. The Homes and Communities Agency-owned Technology Centre is now home to more than 40 high-growth companies employing more than 278 staff, and working for an impressive client list of industry giants, including Rolls Royce, Boeing, Formula One, and Sky. It plays a key role in nurturing SME technology and engineering companies which offer valuable high net-worth graduatejobs in the region, with more than 40% of the current workforce employed in apprentice or graduate roles. There are currently more than 50 patents held by businesses based at the centre.
