Gazprom warns of ‘high risk’ gas shortage in Ukraine

Moscow—A gas shortage in Ukraine’s underground storage facilities has exceeded last year’s level, posing “very high risk” to gas transit to Europe in winter, Gazprom Deputy CEO Alexander Medvedev said late Wednesday, adding that Gazprom is ready to fill the gap with its gas as soon as Kiev prepays, with no third party help. “The risk of transit problems due to insufficient gas in underground storage is very high this year because more than 3 Bcm is missing from storage, even more than last year,” Medvedev told Russia 24 state TV channel. For smooth winter transit, Ukraine has to store 17 Bcm of gas.
