Basrah Candidate Eyed for Iraq's Top Oil Job

Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi has selected Jabbar al-Luaibi, the former head of state oil behemoth South Oil Co. (SOC), as his choice for oil minister, according to Iraqi sources. If approved, the appointment of al-Luaibi, a native Basrawi, would go some way to assuaging mounting pressure from the oil-rich province to gain more power in the region.
