The US' largest electric grid operator, the PJM Interconnection, is forecasting a decrease in peak summer power demand compared to last year as electricity use slowly recovers from the strict Covid-19 lockdowns. The grid operator, which mainly encompasses the mid- Atlantic, expects summer peak demand of about 148,000MW. Last year’s peak demand was 151,000MW, which occurred on 19 July. PJM’s all-time peak demand record of 165,563MW was set in the summer of 2006.
