Can renewables deliver?

The market is there for biomass - and in a big way. The technologies can and will deliver, provided the financial markets take on and understand the maturity of the technologies available. Efficiencies of 'new' technologies will come forward as themarket is allowed to flourish. There are substantial and worrying constraints on the commercial deployment of biomass, many of them derived from Government policy. Governments must stop the talking and start creating market environments which allow projects to be implemented. Constraints must be removed and support mechanisms installed to allow biomass to compete with fossil fuelled generation on a wider basis. Time is of the essence if Government's want their short and medium targets to be achieved. The environmental and socio-economic benefits deliverable by biomass, especially in developing countries, are substantial and another very important reason why urgent action is required from Governments.
