Seven new M&A transactions were announced during the week ended 7 August, up from just three during the week prior, as activity strengthened after a relatively quiet couple of weeks. The week’s most notable transaction was Tronox’s sale of its alkali chemicals business, a major soda ash producer, to midstream energy firm Global Energy for $1.325 billion. The business has been on the selling block since February, when Tronox announced plans to sell it to help finance its acquisition of Saudi titanium dioxide maker Cristal. Tronox bought alkali chemicals from FMC in 2015 for $1.64 billion.
