Western Region III

When we look at the economic data from the Federal Reserve Board we find that the Western Region has been indicating a more solid rate of expansion than the rest of the country. This, in large part, is due to a strong upturn in the aerospace industry, which is concentrated in the Western states. (See the special report on the market for aerospace fasteners elsewhere in this issue.) The Western Region also reported strong retail sales, including an improvement in new car sales, which certainly ran contrary to the national picture. Sales and new orders for semiconductors also rose.
