Accumulation of nitrates by fodder crops in the Far North.

Results of investigations conducted in the Yamal region, Siberia, Russia, on optimal doses of the nitrates content in feeds and the detrimental effect of nitrate deficiency in fodder on animal productivity and health are summarised. Data are tabulated on the effect of N fertilizers on nitrates content (percentage) in the dry matter of spring rape plants at different stages of plant development as an average for 1985-87. The effect of different doses of NPK fertilizers in the dry matter of spring rape and rape in mixtures with other fodder plants is summarised. Data are tabulated on the effect of manure and mineral fertilizers on nitrates accumulation in oats used as green fodder. Data are included on the effect of peat and mineral fertilizers on nitrates accumulation in oats. Data are tabulated on the effect of fertilizers and lime on nitrates content in the natural grass stand in the Ob' river flood-land as an average for 1992-94.
