EFFECTS OF GOLD REFORM ON CHINA'S GOLD INDUSTRY

Gold is recognized as a special type of mineral in China. The Chinese gold industry is quite different from that of Canada or other western countries as its operating framework is based on a centrally planned economic environment, whereas in Canada or other western countries gold industry is cultivated in a free market environment. This study first compares China's current policy and regulatory framework for the gold industry, especially in exploration, development, production and sale, with that of Canada; then compares the performance of gold mining in the two countries; with final focus on some key effects of gold reform on China's gold industry and its economy.
