The experience of integrative links in the dairy and meat agroindustrial subcomplexes

Russian agricultural producers are frequently at a disadvantage in terms of capacity to store, process, and sell their products. The Kanevskaya district of the Krasnodar Territory, by contrast, provides effective examples of producer-processor integration. This applies particularly to the meat, poultry, and dairy sectors. The district's main meat enterprise has its own retail outlets locally as well as trading partners in Krasnodar, Rostov, and St. Petersburg. The dairy plant, which has supply agreements with both corporate and private farms, has received substantial local authority support with ensuring favourable prices for producers. It has some 60 lines of production, including food stabilisers, of which it is the only producer in Russia. As well as shop outlets in the province and in Krasnodar city, it has well-established trading links with organisations in Rostov, St. Petersburg, Moscow, Tuapse, Sochi, Novorossiysk, Petrozavodsk and elsewhere. Its aim is to produce the cheapest dairy goodsin the province, and special attention is given to consumer demand and preferences. Its products have won a number of awards. The main problems have been the considerable tax burden and other costs.
