In vitro toxic influence of alkanes hexane and heptane on tobacco callus was investigated. Growth inhibition was noted after the addition of 0.15 ml paraffins in test tube with 5 ml of agarized nutrition media. Lethal dozes of hexane and heptane were 1.0 and 0.75 respectively. There was hazardous the direct contact between plant cells and liquid phase of substances. In consequence the injury of membrane lipids took place. Toxicity of alkanes increased with carbon skeleton elongation. It is determined by the substance volatility,
