Evaluation of parental forms in apple selection.

All-Russian Research Institute of Breeding of Horticultural Crops has a collection of 2690 apple varieties gathered over the 160 year history of the Institute. A total of 60 new cultivars were created at the Institute, of which 31 were included in the Russian register of breeding achievements. Of these 31 cultivars, 14 are the first Russian cultivars fully resistant to apple scab (Venturia inaequalis). Data on the parental forms used in new cultivar selection are tabulated. Parental forms used include Apple cv. Macintosh (gave rise to 12 new cultivars), seedling 814 (9), Antonovka obyknovennaya (7), SR0523 (7), Antonovka krasnobochka (6), Wealthy (6), tetraploid Papirovka (4) and tetraploid Wealthy (3).
