Regeneration of indigenous plants of Pinus pallasiana D. Don after crown fires against the background of abiotic factors in the post-fire period.

The study was conducted in 2000-03 in Crimea, Ukraine. Three plots were set up at the location of a fire which occurred in 1998. At the first plot all the trees were felled after the fire, at the second location no felling was conducted, and the third was control (no fire). Data on temperature fluctuations, soil humidity, quantity, height and age structure of emerging P. pallasiana [P. nigra var. pallasiana] seedlings are presented. The authors state that clear felling create unfavourable conditions for stand regeneration. High soil temperature of unshaded felled areas stops seedling growth.
