Distribution of 20-hydroxyecdysone in the structure of the above-ground biomass of Rhaponticum carthamoides (Willd.) Iljin under conditions of agrocoenosis in Komi Republic

In a study on the distribution of ecdysteroids [moulting hormones] in above-ground parts of Rhaponticum carthamoides, the highest contents of 20-hydroxyecdysone [ecdysterone] were 0.57% in seeds, 0.4% in calathides (rolled leaves of vegetative shoots) and 0.3% in young leaves (on the upper stem of generative shoots); these plant parts were the richest in ecdysterone at all phases of plant development. The highest yield of 20-hydroxyecdysone from the above-ground parts of Rhaponticum carthamoides would be obtained from plants collected at the end of the period of intensive shoot growth; under the conditions of European North-East Russia, this corresponds to the first part of June.
