The Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries has slammed Environmental Protection Agency proposals that would regulate certain plastics in the recycling stream. The EPA had called for industry comment on proposed amendments to the Toxic Substances Control Act, which would introduce two new rules pertaining to certain polybro-minated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), fire retardants widely used in plastics until 2004.
