For multimedia applications such as Video on Demand, a constant bandwidth specified by media types has to be kept between end hosts. Therefore, a mechanism to inform the applications the available bandwidth along the path improves the QOS on video delivery systems. Unfortunately, the most of existing measurement tools including ping and pchar are unable to estimate the available bandwidth on a path. A few schemes are proposed to overcome this problem. However, they lack the capability to apply for video delivery applications in terms of network load, accuracy and measurement time, This paper shows an alternative approach that uses only two packets and spends less than one second.
