Stress Separation Technique for Thermoelastic Stress Analysis using Nonlinearity of the Thermoelastic Effect

摘要

This paper describes a new technique for determining individual principal stresses from temperature change induced by the thermoelastic effect of elastic solids. The temperature change induced by the thermoelastic effect is usually considered to be proportional to the change in the sum of the principal stresses. However, it has been shown that the amplitude of temperature change is dependent not only on the amplitude of the sum of the principal stresses but also on the mean value of the sum of the principal stresses as well as the amplitude and the mean value of each principal stress when temperature dependence of elastic coefficients cannot be neglected. Utilizing this fact, it is shown that the amplitude of each principal stress can be determined from the temperature amplitudes measured for two different mean stresses. The important feature of this technique is that each principal stress at a certain point can be determined only from temperature data obtained at that point by a simple formula.
