Location based information service: 'station navigation service' of Ekimae-Tanken Club

摘要

The "Station Navigation Service," which provides a list of the nearest railway stations to the user, was inaugurated in October 1997. It was developed as a new service for the Ekimae-Tanken Club, which is an Internet-based information and guidance service for mobile users.The system detects the user's position using information from the personal handy-phone (PHS) base station by which the user is connecting to the Internet, and creates a list of the railway stations that are nearest to the user. This service is targeted at users of mobile PCs, such as the Libretto mini-notebook PC, and the GENIO personal digital assistant (PDA)with a PHS phone feature.
