Changes of endocervix and Plicae circulares accompanied with estrous cycle observed by rectal palpation: relationship with change of progesterone concentration in accessory reproductive organs after ovary and uterus and in blood

Endocervix and plicae circulares of cow were palpated by means of rectal palpation and the score was kept, and its relationship to the findings on ovary as well as on accessory reproductive organs, and its relationship to the change of blood progesterone concentration were examined. Morphological changes of endocervix and plicae circulares accompanied with estrous cycle were synchronized with changes of ovary, other accessory reproductive organs and blood progesterone concentration, and the existence of functional corpus luteum could be estimated from palpating the plicae circulares by means of rectal palpation. In addition, from the fact that many of individuals were pregnant in which the plicae circulares could be palpated within 17 and 33 days after fertilization, it was suggested that the rectal palpation could become and assistance of pregnancy diagenosis at the early stage. From the above findings, the authors consider that a synthetic judgment of findings on endocervix and plicae circulares along with those on ovary and other accessory reproductive organs will be useful for the accuracy improvement of rectal palpation.
