Selective iodometric determination of hydrogen peroxide and #alpha#-hydroxy hydroperoxides in the oxidation products of alcohols

An iodometric procedure was developed for determining #alpha#-hydroxycyclohexyl hydroperoxide and hydrogen peroxide in the products of cyclohexanol oxidation using selective decomposition of H_2O_2 by catalase. Errors caused by dissociation of #alpha#-hydroxycyclohexyl hydroperoxide were eliminated by introducing a correction factor. Samples were diluted with an inert solvent (chlorobenzene or carbon tetrachloride) in order to accelerate the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide by the enzyme in a cyclohexanol solution.
