Luke Lane is a second-year resident in a dermatology residency. He and his fellow residents are already fretting about their preparation for the dermatology certification examination. Passage of the certifying Board examination is a very high-stakes undertaking. Board certification is a requirement of many insurance companies, important for academic stature for university professors, and one of the highest honors that can be achieved by a dermatologist. Historically residents in preceding years who had taken the certifying Board examination had tried to write down as many questions and topics that were on the examination and hand them off to the more junior residents.
