Editor's Note

The Journal of Phenomenological Psychology, founded in 1970 by Amedeo P. Giorgi, will soon enough be celebrating the half-century anniversary of its existence. At the time of its first issue, a still regnant behaviorism with an emergent cognitivism characterized things in psychology. Our Journal provided another voice arising from the Continental tradition, a challenge and an alternative, to the exclusivist naturalism of the then-current and still-residual philosophical assumptions of psychology and the sanctioned, prescribed methodology. At this point, the Journal's function remains that of "challenge and alternative" to a status quo that has further evolved. The Editors-in-Chief by their work have maintained this function from Amedeo Giorgi, through Frederick J. Wertz, and at the present time continuing through me. Starting on January 1,2014, James Morley will assume the position of Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Phenomenological Psychology. Morley is Professor of Clinical Psychology at Ramapo College of New Jersey. In addition to his academic and research credentials, Morley brings with him personal acquaintanceships with European scholars in phenomenology and humanistic psychology, a strong interest in the Asian traditions of reflection and meditation that relate to phenomenology, and a keen sense of social and professional networking that will enhance and extend the influence of our Journal and its research contents. I believe that he is our next best Editor-in-Chief.
