There is much written of late regarding burnout among physicians. Seems that this phenomenon is clouded from our view, partly because of the work ethic trained into us as medical students and residents...but also because of the way we perceive societal expectation of our role as caretaker and healer. We see the problem all around us. Colleagues with emotional fatigue or exhaustion, trouble connecting with patients and their problems, the anger and agitation that permeates all that we do-giving the reputation of "difficult" or "dis-ruptive.'The resultant isolation from others in the healthcare team and colleagues is not healthy, nor does it address the problem.
