1. I was looking to expand my interest into the hobby of growing roses;2. I built my own landscape to fit in with our natural rustic wooded property;3. I got the growing of roses down pretty pat, with good soil, food, water, deadheading and all the usual stuff that goes with having a rose garden;4. I learned to start cuttings and got really good at it, and had a really good success rate with everything I started in the cutting bed.But on a side note, I still can't master the art of grafting. So, I will stick with my cuttings. I also used PVC piping and made a misting system for my cutting bed.The more I got together with friends at District Meetings and talked with Frank Benardella, Ben Williams, and John Smith, I became interested in the art of hybridizing, reading articles and joining the hybridizing group and playing in the roses. Frank'stip to me was always keep it small, keep it a hobby, because in this day and age hybridizing will not make you rich.
